DIABETIC SCREENING STAYS IN RADLETT

24.03.2008
Following the news that diabetic screening will now take place at central units around the country, Mr Kirit Patel along with local GP's from Radlett,Elstree and Borehamwood have successfully campaigned and won the contract to allow us to screen our loyal patients locally.
This will allow more flexibility and convenience to our patients, old and new, who will be attending from the relevant surgeries. We also offer a screening only facility for patients who wish to remain with their usual opticians for their eyetests.
Unfortunately, we will no longer be able to screen anyone from outside the area on the NHS, but for anyone wishing to have the tests privately,we have a scale of fees.

Diabetic Screening Involves:-
  • Comprehensive history and refraction of every patient.
  • Biomicroscope examination of patients drainage angles and anterior corneal and lenticular assessment.
  • Intra ocular pressure assessed using proxy methacaine and disposable contact tonometer heads.
  • Pupil dilation using tropicamide 1% ( and/or phenylepherine 2.5% for patients with undilated or small pupils)
  • following dilation each patient has a volk lens examination of the fundus to rule out any vitreous or fundus abnormalities.
  • The retina is then photographed using the fundus camera.
